Hashim’s last hazy memory was being told off because he
wasn’t eating his peas. Then there was a slam and he was in
chilly Antarctica.
1.
Antarctica is a tough place to be. I mean, think about it. Ice
ridges and tons of frozen ports. But hey, at least there was a
KFC that Hashim managed to find one day when he got
hungry, They didn’t charge him much. And most days he
could get away with promising a share for the polar bears
and subterranean fish. He complained but really he thanked
the KFC people because he really couldn’t eat alone.
2.
Hashim missed his parents badly. But he had to be in
Antarctica for something. When his little toe stubbed against
an ice pole one day and he let out a huge “YIKEEES!” He
had never before been so vocal. He would have been told off
at home. but in cold Antarctica it was all ok. He felt like a
rockstar like the waistcoats he had seen walking around.
3.
One night a frosty breeze covered the terrain and the
residents were all frowning. Hashim didn’t know why but
he knew had a pickaxe on hand and knew ice cream was a
remedy for any sadness. He hurled his mighty pick and let it
land on some ice to make it ice cream. He passed it around
to the frowning fish and penguins. He told them all it could
have been strawberry flavored, or vanilla flavored, or any
other flavor as long as he had the sachet to add to it. Back
home he had chocolate.
4.
After many days like this, one laborious morning, Hashim
was able to piece together an igloo just for himself with a
pizza stove he decided just for himself. Polar bears don’t eat
pizzas he told himself, but really he was being slant. Even if
they did, they didn’t like them the way he made them with
the charred crusts. That was the game changer.
An igloo is a house of ice that is warm inside, Luckily there
was also a Telly and the morning cartoons were playing.
Hashim gladly gobbled up Mr. Fit Fantastic’s training
regimen and when exhausted promised he would follow it
once he was tall like Mr Fan. He muttered the lines to bed,
‘Ho!’ ‘Hah!’ ‘Are you ladies alright?’ *wink*
How come the cartoons were playing at the same time back
home and in Antarctica? He must be in the same ‘time zone’
as he learned in Geography.
5.
The next day exchanging the KFC with the mighty bear,
Hashim found a glistening ring on the polar bear’s paw. He
asked to have it for a day.
After sniffing Hashim up and down, something Hashim
found very odd, the bear was happy to oblige. On the return
back the next day, Hashim put the ring back on the wrong
paw and the white polar bear was deeply offended. He
didn’t talk to Hashim for twelve whole days!
‘What a beat!’ Hashim thought.
Later the crusts in his pizza oven were becoming overly
charred. And he had no ice water to get from the bear to cool
himself down.
You should put things back in the place you found them said
the flowery bear and Hashim could again watch his movies
without the food burning; He wanted his parents more than
ever.
6.
After for the second time, Hashim was scared, Clowns
approached him from both sides and a breezy smell
followed.
His parents lifted him out of his bedsheets and Antarctica
was gone far away – back to where it had come from.
